If you check the original image, I think you'll see it's 246

And yes, you can order the cert from the GRO - make sure you use the same spelling as on the index  Smiley

The entry is Vol 22 page 246 I suspect the BMD transcriber has added the extra '2'.

You can of course apply directly to Halifax Register Office. You will need to download an application form. I don't have their new address at the moment, they moved offices recently so you will need to Google for it. If you apply there they don't need the GRO reference.
