Hillingdon (Uxbridge) - WEBB, EVERSFIELD
« on: Wednesday 01 July 09 07:03 UTC (UK) »

Requesting look-ups of Hillingdon parish records for baptisms of any EVERSFIELD child between 1835 and 1846; also children of George and Eliza WEBB between 1835 and 1846 and Henry and Harriet Webb between 1838 and 1846.

I am trying to narrow down the dates that four Kent families spent working in Uxbridge.

William & Ann Eversfield and Henry & Harriet Eversfield, together with George & Eliza Webb and Henry Webb all moved to Uxbridge Moor from Dartford, Kent, in mid 1830s to work as seed crushers at the Uxbridge Moor oil mills.

One Webb child was baptised in Dartford in Nov 1835, and the next Webb child I have a reasonably firm date for was born Q3 1838 in Uxbridge, but there were Eversfield children born before March 1837 in Uxbridge and there made have been other Webb children who did not survive.

It would appear that the mill the four men worked at laid off staff in the mid-1840s, the Eversfields returned to Kent as Ag labs, but the Webb brothers continued working as seed crushers, but moved to Stepney/Limehouse to work at the mills near the London Docks.

I can find children born in Uxbridge to both Webb brothers in 1843, and the first in Limehouse in 1846; Ditto the Eversfields - a child born in Iver, Bucks, (just across the Colne river from Uxbridge Moor) in 1842, the next born in Kent in 1846 - were there any that did not survive born in 1844 or 1845?

Any help much appreciated

Hi siegebatteries

I've looked at the baptism index for St John's church Hillingdon upto 1841 and there are no Eversfield entries.

The only Webb entries are for Ann & James, the illegitimate children of Sarah Webb.

Dear Dawn

Many thanks for your efforts - I do hope I haven't sent you on a wild goose chase. I know one of my Webbs was married at Hillingdon parish church but it has now been suggested that any baptisms could have taken place at St Margaret's chapel, later Uxbridge parish church, even before St Margaret's became a parish in its own right in 1842. I'm still not sure.

Regards
Peter
