This looks more like him:

Just found an 18 year old Mat Keer or Kerr on the 1841 in Closeburn

Oat ?, Closeburn
816 ED 3 Page 1

David Bell, 20, fam servant
Mat Keer or Kerr, 18, farm servant

Both b. Dumfriesshire

Worth checking for him on the 1851 to see if he's still around

I don't see the Mat*  Keer/Kerr/Keir b.cc. 1823 on the 1851, just the Blacksmith and an 11 year old.

The 1841 one  might well be Robert's father.  Don't see a baptism, marriage or burial though  Undecided

Helen was down as a widow on her marriage to John Dalzell but her marriage to John Kerr might well have been a non-Church of Scotland one and wouldn't show in the OPRs.
