I am trying to trace details of either a birth/marriage or death for the above with not much success - I think Helen was born around 1826 and they had a son Robert born in 1850. Any help would be appreciated

The 1851 census to start with:
East Street, Lochmaben 840 ED 2 Page 1
Kerr Helen Wells or Kerrr, widow, 25, pauper (formerly a house servant) Jannet, 4, Robert, 1
All b. Lochmaben
They are living next to a family headed by Elizabeth Galloway, wid, 50 and her children, all surname of Wells

PS - SP has me as having looked at this image before. Have we covered it previously?

Helen and John Dalzell married 1860, Dryfesdale
I've been searching for the other thread but so far can't find it. Stoop ws interested in Kerrs - maybe we covered part of it in one of those.

Helen's parents are showing as Robert Wells, millwright, and Elizabeth Galloway (NOTE - no maiden surname, just entered as Elizabeth Galloway )
Robert is not mentioned as deceased but, in the 1851, Elizabeth is down as a widow (see my previous post).

Hi David
I've searched my previous history of the Kerrs on SP and it looks as if it was Robert Kerr that I have investigated so it must have been for stoop.
Check this board and Cumberland for stoops previous postings on them.

Here's the family in 1841:
East Street, Lochmaben 840 ED 1 P 9
Jean Richardson, 60, Ind. Wells Robert, 50,joiner Elizabeth, 35 Mary, 15 Hellen, 12 James, 10 Grace, 5 Margaret, 2 Elizabeth, 1
All b. Dumfriesshire - Note that in the 1841 Census, those of 15 and over were grouped into 5 year age bands so that Robert could be 50-54; Elizabeth, 35-39, etc.
Not found Matthew yet.

David
Do you know who Robert married and when?
The only Mat* Kerr that I can find on the 1841 who is old enough to have children in the late 1840s is in Dumfries:
Irish Street, Dumfries 821 ED 13 P 12
Matthew Kerr, 30, Blacksmith J (for journeyman) b. Dumfriesshire

Ah - I looked at that marriage on 12 March 2006 according to SP , not long after I joined Rootschat!
Matthew is down as a labourer, deceased, so it won't be the Blacksmith.
I'll have another look for the thread.
