Hi everyone.. Just wanted to share.. due to work kids and life I am constantly picking up and putting down my family history search, like most people I guess..Anyway I have been getting into it over the last couple of weeks and have had some amazing breakthoughs.. due to the wonderful detective work of fellow Rootschatters..(This is my favourite site!) Anyway I was looking into a branch of my family that drifted away about 80 years ago and I didn't think I would be able to make contact due privacy etc.. ANYWAY.. 2 days ago my 82year old great uncle called (via my uncle and father) wanting to know his family history. It was incredible..my father had never even met him we thought they were lost forever... It was just so great sharing what I had found and finding out about other living family members... Just wanted to confirm that weird wonderful things do happen cheers Tabily!

How exciting for you Tabily... I know how you feel!
Similarly, I was looking for information on a brother of my maternal grandmother, who left England and settled in America, way back in the early 1900's. After his death in 1938 and my own grandmother's in 1944, apparently contact with his family was eventually lost.
Thanks to the wonders of the internet and being contacted by a second cousin, in a few days time, the daughter of the above brother will arrive from America. She will spend a few days with us and meet up with her English cousins, including my mum!

That is wonderful ...... One of my descendants his wife died suddenly and six months after I found 2 people that we could never find when she was alive. I also got in touch with one of our genealogy branches to help locate an ancestor. The helper also knew the descendants deceased wife, but not only that knew the parents of the ancestors I was searching for, so was able to get heaps of information on them.
So yes I believe that we do get a helping hand from those above but not everyone would go along with that.
Cheers KHP

Re getting breaks and someone dying... When I saw the letters someone had hoarded unaware of their significance I was stunned. In the letters were name and ddates- just what I'd been chasing... so throw nothing out is the rule
