Hi,
A copy of his marriage certificate will show his occupation, which might give you a reason for a move to Sheffield.
If he had any children then you could check his occupation on their certificates.

Hes of military service age may be an idea to check WW1 online archives see if theres any records? Do you know if he served? Theres Medal Index cards online at the NA site and Service Records on Ancestry.

Ady's suggestion of checking the military records is good- the info available in such a file, if indeed there is one for a serviceman, gives next of kin, addresses and all sorts of helpful info- as well as filling out the picture of the serviceman's life. Definitely worth checking.

Hi There is one Victor James Lawrence Medal Index Card to a guy in the Border Regiment. There is also a Medal Card to a Victor Lawrence in the London Regiment.
At present its all guesswork he could have joined any of the services unless you know for definate. If you had any photos of him in uniform we may be able to pin him down.Or have his medals they would be impressed on the rim with number name and regiment.
