Hi Nanny Jan

Yes he did marry about that time and eventually moved back there, but some reason he moved to sheffield for about 2 years about 1932, possibly a job move?

Hi,

A copy of his marriage certificate will show his occupation, which might give you a reason for a move to Sheffield.

If he had any children then you could check his occupation on their certificates.

Lottee, Have you looked in RC Surnames to see if anyone else is researching your chap?  Go to the top of this page and click on Surnames, 4th button from left.

Thanks Charlotte, didn't appreciate this. New to Rootschat and haven't found my way around the site yet.  This site is great and what has surprised me is how helpful people are both with tips on "how to" and good info.
Best wishes

Hes of military service age may be an idea to check WW1 online archives see if theres any records? Do you know if he served? Theres Medal Index cards online at the NA site and Service Records on Ancestry.

Ady's suggestion of checking the military records is good- the info available in such a file, if indeed there is one for a serviceman, gives next of kin, addresses and all sorts of helpful info- as well as filling out the picture of the serviceman's life.  Definitely worth checking.

Thanks Charlotte and Ady. He was in WW1, however unsure which regiment and so far have been unable to find his name.  He was born in London then at some stage moved up north to Yorkshire where he married, but have no idea when the move took place except before 1926 when he married.  So it could have been a regiment around London area or Yorkshire. Bit of a black hole at the moment but will keep looking.

Hi
There is one Victor James Lawrence Medal Index Card to a guy in the Border Regiment. There is also a Medal Card to a Victor Lawrence in the London Regiment.

At present its all guesswork he could have joined any of the services unless you know for definate. If you had any photos of him in uniform we may be able to pin him down.Or have his medals they would be impressed on the rim with number name and regiment.
