McVicker (McVicars)
« on: Friday 12 June 09 05:03 UTC (UK) »

Tracing my great grandmother, Mary McVicar (McVicker) & found there's a record of the Birth of a Mary McVICKER 15Oct1868, Antrim to Henry McVICKER=Margaret DAVIS
According to Mary's two marriage certs. and death cert. her mother's maiden name clearly states DAVIDSON.  Is it just possibly because some older records may be illegible? On her marriage certificate (1891) it lists her father as Henry McVICKERS, farm labourer, deceased and her mother as Margaret McVICKERS, afterwards NEILL, m.s. DAVIDSON, deceased

Similarly there's the birth of an Elizabeth McVICKER in 1866 (possible sibling?)albeit with mother's name DAWSON rather than the expected DAVIDSON.  I can readily see DAWSON being mistaken for DAVIDSON?

I've found there's a District of Ballymena death in 1869 of Henry McVICKAR aged 29yrs.

Interestingly Mary married a Richard Dickson (in 1891 in Scotland) and there's a birth of Richard DICKSON - 7Aug1871 in Antrim. Parents - Thomas DICKSON and Margaret McVICKAR. Possibly indicating Mary and Richard were cousins?

Any information on how to find records of the McVicker's - esp Mary and her parents Henry & Margaret, would be appreciated as i am just starting my search and have got this far with the generous help of someone on Scotland site. Irish records are much harder to locate.
Thankyou

Thanks very much for that. Is it possible to confirm the death record of Henry?  What sites do you suggest I use to do any further searching? How possible would it be to go back further? Is there census records that would give me a list of all children of Henry & Margaret? Any advice appreciated.

Hi, I have a Thomas Dixon & Margaret McVicker in my tree.  My line is Margaret McVicker's sister, Jane McVicker.   Have a little bit about the McVickers and yes Thomas & Margaret had a son Richard.
Maybe Margaret & Jane's father had a brother but I don't know of a Henry or names Davidson/Dawson etc. Annie
