One marriage look up at Manchester please

Hi

If anyone is going to Manchester could they possibly look up one marriage please?

Thomas PILLING married Jane FINEGAN

2nd quarter 1905  Holy Trinity, Ashton under Lyne. 

These records are not available at Ashton and it will be a couple of months before I can get to Manchester myself.  I have Jane before her marriage but Thomas has proved very elusive cannot find him before the 1911, so I really need to find his father name and occupation.

Can I ask - have you viewed the full 1911 image or just the transcription?

No Thomas Pilling birth in Preston 1877/78 and no 1881/91/1901 entry for that birthplace.

I just wondered if it could be Prescot as there is a Thomas Pilling birth in 1878 Prescot on freebmd

Hello again

Yes I have and it's definately Preston.  No doubt about it.   Their son Francis Joseph Finegan was born before their marriage.  On the 1911 he is shown as a Pilling, but he married and died a Finegan.  Just wondering if there was a specific reason why he didn't take on his father's surname.  It does seem a little odd, I think this is the first time where I have seen a son keep his mother's maiden name rather than change to his father's.

As I said, cannot find him any where.  Just hoping SKS who's going to Manchester before I can get there can look up his father.  It say's he works in a jam works.  The nearest one would have been Robertson's that used to be in Droylsden.
