Hi Folks,
I would like to confirm a baptism found on the IGI (Extracted) and would like to know the parents names & if they are on the Parish Registers please.
Benjamin LANGHORNE - Bp. 28 May 1595 (St Paul Bedford) - No Parents noted
Most sources say that he was the son of Robert Langhorne & Margaret Needham/Nedham but I'd really like to confirm both his baptism and his parentage if at all possible.
If anyone has a chance to check the PR's I'd very much appreciate your help.
Thanks
Di

Hi Di
Don't know whether you've seen this - doesn't confirm Benjamin's father was Robert but adds weight. Robert Langhorne of Bedford took out a 3yr lease on the Lodge Harrold Park in 1602.

Thanks Jan,
That actually answers another question I had about this family. I had noticed that Robert had a couple of extra children born Harrold (or Jarrold ) Park after 1601 and now I know that the family obviously moved to a new house.
I'll have a look at the site you've posted.
Much appreciated
Di

Here is the Blars main site should you need to contact them - they are amazingly helpful there.

Another bit of circumstantial evidence
http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=42372
Scroll down to Grey Friars which was in Bedford St Paul and in the Langhorne family for a while until sold by Robert in 1604.

Thanks a million Jan,
The British History site mentions the Borne family and they were my next family to investigate. As William Borne died in 1544 I guess information is going to become rather hard to find from here back.
The Blair site is fabulous and I need to spend a lot of time on there.
Thanks ever so much for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi Di
Do you already have Robert Langhorne's will of 1607 from the National Archives site?

BINGO!!
I can't read most of it but a couple of words I can read are "sonne" and "Benjamin"
I'll try again with the rest of it but at least that confirms Benjamin was son of Robert of Grey Friars and Harrold Park.
Thanks so much for your help Jan.
It's great to find such an easy solution - no wonder all other descendants seemed so positive that Benjn was Robert's son. I just needed to confirm it for my own peace of mind.

Fantastic
I love it when it all falls in to place
Jan
As for reading early wills I've downloaded one which may be connected to my Godfreys but am really struggling to decipher it.

I also have problems with early wills particularly pre 1600's. The worst was one that ended up in Latin and that took me days just to realise that it WAS Latin
I also have Godfrey's in my tree but they were from Suffolk in the early 1700's I believe. Mary Godfrey married (2nd) to a guy from Buntingford in Herts so the Godfrey name died out of my tree in 1760.
