Discovery at last

Can anybody help please? About 10 minutes ago I discovered that my gr-gr-grandfather Edward McDonnell was a Gunner with the Royal Artillery and in 1871 was stationed in Camp Ahmadabad, Maharastra Province, India. Is it possible to get his Military record and where do I start or who can I contact??

I Googled 'Royal Artillery 1871 India' and it threw up the following link

If you cannot get to Kew Findmypast will be putting surviving records online by 2011. If his records have not survived you can follow his service using the Muster Books (WO12/16), although you will have to discover his battery/brigade from the Army List first.
