Hi Chammy
Just to clarify about Alice Ann Cartman when you say you have looked at lots of deaths - do you mean you have searched the death indexes year by year and quarter by quarter through all the relevant time scale? I don't want to re-do the search if you have already done that.
I presume Alice Ann never married - again don't want to look for Cartman if we should be looking for her death under her married name.
Have you checked on Lancsbmd in case you strike lucky with a search?

There is a marriage of an Alice Ann Cartman on Lancsbmd to a Spencer in 1939, would have made Alice 50 at time of marriage but she could have married late.

Do you mean the 1960's - 1970's If so she may have died as a Spencer.
I tend to think in the 19th century when we use only 2 numbers

Hi everyone thanks so much for your help we always thought that she was a spinster, but my mum was only young when she remembered her so i suppose she may have been married after my mum knew her, i have looked at the lancsbmd but couldnt find anything and have also looked on ancestary at the months and years, without success, thanks everyone for helping me i really appriciate it, thanks for the information as to the aunt and uncle that charles william was staying with, another puzzle that i have is Sidney had a son aged 8/9 who died at Blackburn infirmary in Sept 1919 when he was kicked by a horse on the farm,i have his death certificate,a kind man showed us where the grave would have been, its just an uneven patch,he told me the child was burried with other people possible relatives,my gran always told me she was going in the family grave in Blackburn cemetary, where the childs mum and dad and my gran and grandad are burried, but i cant understand why the child would be in a grave with other people, would i be able to find out if there was ever a gravestone?because theres nothing now,i know my gran never knew her brother was burried there, they were comfortable moneywise so theres no reason not to be a stone . Charles William the grandad has a grave there and the family have so i wonder what could have happened to the stone, i got some paperwork from cemsearch but theres nothing to mention the little boy

What a shame he's not mentioned.
Cemeteries in towns were getting quite full in the late Victorian age so may be they put children in another grave but I would have thought he would be with family. May be the stones have been moved. You mentiond Cemsearch. Surely the cemetery reecords would have his name in them.
