Ilchester PR look-up please

Hi,

Am trying to find children born to George and Sarah Hockey (nee Morey)

George and Sarah married in 1848 in Yeovil district. I have them on all census, but am trying to piece together other children that may be with relatives.

If anyone has these resources available I would be very grateful.

Narrow the field: Where do long gaps appear between kids? (from census)

can you find likley GRO birth/death refs and track those?

Hi Pauline,

I'm trying to confirm whether several children belong to George and Sarah.

I have found so far:-

John c1849
Sarah J c1851
both from 1851

Thomas H c1849
William c1856
Kate E c1858
John c1860
from 1861, along with Sarah J, age 10

1871 has John M, age 11, and James M, age 9, scholars at school where Mary Morey (Aunt) is head of house, also there is Sarah Hockey, nee Morey, who I believe is their Mother.

1881 has Sarah Hockey, 53, sister to Amey Morey, 48, and nephew James, 19.

1891 shows frederick g Hockey, 37 as head with sister Catherine E CHockey, 29, and mother Sarah Hocke, wid 63.

Frederick G Hockey doesn't appear on any census with his parents except for the 1891, but in 1881 Frederic Hockey and Catherine appear as nephew and niece to William and Jane Gardiner. Also 1871.

In 1861 Fredeick appears as nephew to Richard and Alice Lydford (nee Hocley) Presumably this should be Hockey!!

So, I guess what I'm trying establish is this:-

Are John b 1849 and Thomas H ,b1849, the same person or are they brothers born in the same year. Two likely candidates on FreeBMD John, Q4 1849 yeovil district, and Harry Tom born Q4 Yeovil district. (different page numbers!!!)

Is Catherine Elizabeth Crocker Hockey, the Kate E Hockey who appears in the 1881 census?

Is Frederick the son of George and Sarah?

What happened to the father George, as he only appears in the 1851 census, but his wife Sarah still appears to be married up until 1881. There is a death of a George Hockey in Q4 1881, age 58, so I wonder where he is??

Hope that hasn't confused you (it has me!!!!) Maybe I should rename the title.

I'd still look for the gro refs.
That'll give second forenames to help ID swapped fornames...

and I'd lay out the census as enumerated, to make comparisons easier
