Hi,

 Smiley

Have a look at this website:-

www.missing-ancestors.com

which has a lot of information about industrial or reform schools.  If you have a look at the index Birkdale Farm is listed and there is also a "Where to find information" section and a "What to do if you are really stuck Undecided "section too.

Best of luck,

Hi,

 Huh Huh Huh

I know the link I posted doesn't work but I don't know why.

I have just used Google and searched for industrial schools england and selected it to search for pages in the UK and it was the first one that came up and I just clicked on it and the website came up.  I have just tested the link again but it just came up with something about domains which definitely isn't right.  What do you get when you search on Google?

I don't know what else to suggest.  Maybe another Rootschatter can help.  Its a shame 'cos there is loads of information on there and I really want you to be able to find it because it will help you.

Hi,

Sorry you are not finding what you need.  From looking at that website you need to apply to relevant record office.  I am not sure whether Birkdale Farm will come under Lancashire or Liverpool.  There is a contact email address on the website, may be you can contact the person who put it all together for advice on where the individual school records are kept and maybe they will be able to point you in the right direction.

Best of luck,

Hi,

I am the webmaster on the missing-ancestors website.  I was not aware that the site was down until I looked at it today.  I contacted the web-hosting company, who advised there was a problem and they would sort it out.  I looked a few moments ago and it is up and running again.  However, there is maintenance work being carried out and it will be down again from 10p.m 17th July until 6am 18th July.

As you say he was placed in the care of a Roman catholic home, why not ask on this site as any records could be held by Liverpool Archdiocese.
