Hi Merv.
Thought I would post here leading on from your Scottish post www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,390247.0.html to help you keep responses on William altogether
Going by the names of William's two daughters, Euphemia Wintrup Scott and Jane Hogg Scott. As you have said, Jane Hogg was second born and named after William's mother. Likely first born Euphemia was named after Isabella's mother (following Scottish naming pattern). I wonder if these are Isabella's details:
Isabella Miller Birth: About 1854 Teviothead, Roxburgh, Scotland Parents: James Miller and Euphemia WINTROP.
If I was to guess at this stage, with William's father named William (first born son c. 1882) and then Isabella's father named James (second born son c. 1884), they still seem to be following naming pattern with these names...
Now to find the proof

There is a marriage showing on Scotlands People, the official pay to view site for BMDs and census images for a William Scott and an Isabella Miller in 1878 in Hawick Roxburghshire. Scottish marriage certs will include full parents' details including mothers' maiden names. This will let you verify that it is your William's first marriage.
This looks a possible entry for the Isabella we are talking about in the 1861 census:
James Milles 65, Gamewatcher b. Teviothead Roxburgshire Euphemia Milles 49, b. Lilliesleaf, Roxburghshire Douglas Miller 12 (daughter (?) b. Teviothead Roxburgshire Isabella Miller 7 b. Teviothead Roxburgshire
Address: Loughburnfoot, Teviothead Roxburgshire

Might be worthwhile you checking out deaths on Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for Isabella. There are only two showing for an Isabella Miller/Scott b. 1854 +/- 5 yrs between 1883 -91. One that looks a possibility took place in 1888 in Dumfries, Dumfries-shire. Scottish death certs include spouse details together with full parents' names, if known to the informant. There is also a birth showing in Dumfries in 1883 for a James Miller Scott which I wonder if it could be the James birth you are looking for. Scottish birth certs. include parents' marriage details (place and date) .... I'm beginning to sound like an advertisement for Scottish BMDs

Monica, your intuition was correct. You've certainly found William's first wife. I used Scotlandspeople as you suggested.
The June 3, 1888, death record of Isabella Christ___ Scott in Dumfries Parish was married to William Scott and was the daughter of James Miller and Euphemia Miller (Maiden Surname Wintrop). You'll remember of course that the name of my William's first daughter was Euphemia Wintrop so therefore named after his wife's mother.
Also, the sept 12, 1883 birth of James Miller Scott, son of William Scott, Horticulture Builder and Isabella Scott (MS Miller). I can't read their address but it's in Dumfries Parish.
So....Isabella is the mother of the 4 children (Euphemia, Jane, William and James) but she died in 1888. The 1891 census therefore lists William's second wife, Mary. And it looks like William married his 3rd wife, Janet Jackson, in Oct-Dec, 1900 (need cert to confirm).
How's that for a night's work on Scotlandspeople?
Merv.
ps. Thanks so much Monica.

I've now downloaded from Scotlandspeople the marriage of Isabella Miller and William Scott on Feb 5, 1878, Hawick, Sco. It proves to be the correct William Scott of my lineage so confirms his first wife as Isabella Miller.
Also downloaded birth of his first son William, born on Jan 23, 1882 at Dumfries, confirming his mother as Isabella Miller too.
A good night of findings.

Earlier in this string of postings Suz stated she had found William/Isabella's daughter Euphemia Wintrup Scott had married Hugh Randal McNeil (Jun qtr 1900 Chorlton 8c 1665). Suz also found them later, in 1901 census, living at 5 Bold Street, Stretford, Lancs. Hugh was listed as Tailor's Cutter.
I'm hoping someone could determine for me whether they had any children?

Wow. You are so fast I can't keep up.
Migky, thanks so much for finding William's burial. Is Southern Cemetery a part of the Phillips Park Cemetery in Manchester?

Thanks to some wonderful people I have learned a great deal about this part of my family. The picture of this family is truly taking shape. Simply amazing.
I wonder if anyone could help guide me on finding an newspaper obituary about the James Miller Scott of Rybank Road, Manchester who was buried on July 29, 1941 at Southern Cemetery (age 57). That might lead to his family and a possible descendant living today....a connection for me?
