1848 Marriage - St. Pancras
« on: Saturday 25 April 09 12:21 UTC (UK) »

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone can help. I'm not familiar with researching outside of Lancashire and think I may have a Lancashire couple marrying in the registration district of St. Pancras.

I have a MARCUS NAYLOR b. 24/09/1821 in Haydock, Lancashire who married an Elizabeth.

Marcus and Elizabeth appear on the 1851 and 1861 census living in Portsea, Hampshire. Marcus appears on the 1841 census, aged 19, living in Haydock, Lancashire looking un-married.

So, it pretty much looks like Marcus and Elizabeth married between June 1841 and April 1851 and during this time frame also moved from Haydock, Lancashire to Portsea, Hampshire.

Marriage registration:
Marriage - December Quarter 1848
St. Pancras - 1 276
CLARK, Sophia
HUFFER, James
KNOWLES, Elizabeth
MANN, James Chicheley
NAYLOR, Marcus
PALMER, Sarah Ann Buswell
RYAN, Patrick
WHITE, Margaret

I'm not able to buy a marriage certificate at the moment and was hoping someone reading would be able to give me a little more information than the above registration.

Many thanks for reading, Rowan Tree  Smiley

It's on the IGI www.familysearch.org.

He married Elizabeth Knowles on October 9th.

Doh  Roll Eyes !

That'll teach me not to use the IGI.

Thanks to Isobelruss and PaulineJ for there posts.

I don't suppose anyone reading can look-up the marriage for the father's names and so on? Hope this isn't too cheeky an ask.

Many thanks, Rowan Tree  Smiley

P.S. Isobelruss, just read your latest post. I think there's a few trees on Ancestry with Marcus, or at least Marcus's parents and several of his siblings. I'm in touch with a few Twiss descendants who are interested in Marcus (Marcus's mothers maiden name was Twiss). Until today I'm not aware anyone has come up with the St. Pancras marriage as a possibility. Hmmm...

Hmmmm
someones got Elizabeth Knowles as his wife though and a death for her in 1899 but no marriage details or parents.I think you can safely say he died at Crow Lane Newton le Willows if he was there in 81 and his widow is still there in 91

Thanks Isobelruss, You're a star,

Can I be cheeky and ask for the Ancestry user name of the owner of the tree you mention above?

I think you're spot on with where Marcus died. Also, I think Elizabeth died in Newton c. 1899.

Cheesy I'm Kirsty - Sorry, I should have said. When I joined Roots someone already had Kirsty as a user name so I went with Rowan Tree. I've only just added the picture of the church. I know I should probably wait for more evidence before I go with the 1848 marriage but I really think it's my Marcus and Elizabeth.

Hi Kirsty

Are you still waiting for a marriage look-up or have you bought the cert from the GRO?
