Alas I couldn't find the maps, so I rang Hemel library.  They no longer sell them but the guy I spoke to was pretty sure that they were Alan Godfrey maps.  As Richard has already given the URL I won't repeat it here.

Thanks Rick and richard, l have had a look and ordered some of the Alan Godfrey maps.....looks interesting, will surely give me a better picture.

Fantastic next day service from Alan Godfrey Maps.....very interesting although somewhat inconclusive.

Isnt it always the way that the bit you are interested in is probably just adjacent to the map you have and not on it!!

Will look for more maps and get there in the end.
