Can some one please tell me where the Eastern Cemetary is?
I  believe I have a relation buried there and would like to visit at some point.

Hi macmoffat,

try this link:

http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/78531/details/edinburgh+drum+terrace+eastern+cemetery/

If this is the right one, then it's off a side street down Easter Road in Edinburgh.
Where about do you live as I can give you rough directions from centre of Edinburgh on how to get there.

Thanks for the offer Caz.
Due to your map I  now know its beside the Hibs ground .  I know where that is. Its just a case of locating the right stone I have contacted Mortonhall to see if they can shed light on the exact location of the grave. Marked or unmarked as the case maybe.

Correct location but not under the control of the City of Edinburgh Council.

Try:
204 Piersfield Terrace, Piershill Cemetery, Edinburgh EH8 7BN

How would one discover in which cemetery in Edinburgh, and in which graves, relatives are buried?

The City of Edinburgh Council (Mortonhall contact) took over the records and maintenance of the some of the private cemetery companies which had themselves been taken over by speculators for land use and who allowed the burial grounds to fall into what can only be described as back to nature.   They obviously had not done their homework about seeking planning permission in Scotland.   I understand that the City now look after some 39 grounds but I do not know if they still have the records for all of them.    I know from experience that the City do not have a clear map of the lairs at St. Cuthberts, however there is one in the Church Office.

As far as I am aware the City are undergoing an exercise to record all headstones and lowering those which are deemed unsafe.

The remaining private burial grounds include, Dean (One set of records were held in the lodge safe), Eastern and Piershill (run by the same Company).

Have a look at:
