Robert Flood & Phebe Leech
« on: Thursday 02 July 09 02:20 UTC (UK) »

Hi
Can you help?

I seek help with locating any info about my G.G.G.G. grandparents

Robert Flood was born about 1775 in/near Ashill or Sparham (depending which census you look at).
In 1841 he seems to be involved with a farm and in 1851 he is superannuated drillman.
He married Phebe Leech in March 1800 Ashil and had at least 4 children.
Do you know of this family and their ancestors/places of origin, are YOU related?

Hi Trish

Thank you for the reply, I'll look again at "Familysearch"

A brief note to all who are interested the spelling of Phebe is found as such on a parish record and it is not uncommon for spelling of a persons name to change depending upon who was entering it in the official record

There are also quite a lot of Flood baptisms on Freereg including some of William and Sarah MACE . Sarah seems to be the sister of James Flood born 1802, 2 of the children of Robert and Phebe.

Possible marriage;
Mary FLOOD
Benjamin BRAME
11 October 1832, Astill, Norfolk

So were there 3 daughters and 1 son from marriage of Robert and Phebe?

BURIAL;
Phoebe FLOOD, St Nicholas, Astill, Norfolk, 23 June 1858, reg.no 597, aged 79
Robert FLOOD, St Nicholas, Astill, Norfolk, 20 December 1858, reg. 605, aged 84

Sometimes if you are lucky just posting stuff like this brings out descendants who are googling on the web Smiley

Cheers,
Trish

I found something, will have to look again and think Mary 1808 died and another was baptised 1815. This is probably the one that married 1832.
Are you descended from James?

Sorry, I am working on my Scavenger Hunt and 2 postings on NZ and Australia board at same time Tongue

Hi Trish

Please don't apologize, I'm grateful for your interest and help.

Yes I am descended from James, he is my g.g.g. grandfather (he married Maria Cater)
The Flood name changed at my grand mothers wedding to Winsor, so,
Robert & Phebe then
James Flood & Maria Cater then
Charles Flood & E.A Woodcock then
W.J. Flood
Gran
dad
me

Cross referencing & checking new info on ONE "board" is sometime hard enough, but 3 , you must be either extremely experienced at this or youv'e got 4 arms and 2 heads  (meant as humour not offense)

Hi Trish

You are very kind to keep looking.
Some info for you and other "readers"
JAMES FLOOD marries ANN DARSLEY on 11 May 1824 in Ashill
Ann died Feb 1825 and was the daughter of William & Ann
( found using a combination of microfiche & visit to Ashill parish church, grave inscriptions)
JAMES FLOOD then marries MARIA CATER in July 1828 (microfiche) she died 24 Dec 1863 ( grave detail ).

I haven't seen the 1871 census you refer to about "James & Ann", might this be a coincidence of name?
