This is just a hopefull plea that anyone on this board with their resources and vast expertise can find my Holdsworths arriving in NZ abt 1860, possibly via Melbourne, Australia.

Can I suggest, that to increase your chance of getting a result, you add the names here, of the HOLDSWORTHS who came to New Zealand ?    Smiley

[Whilst you've given the link to your scavenger hunt on the subject, other than the "Ann Elizabeth HOLDSWORTH" mentioned, it's a little difficult (without a lot of reading) to work out who's who  ... and who belongs where  ... AND just which of them might have come to NZ ??]

Of course you are right.

The last sighting of them is on the 1851 Cenus, Ashton under Lynne, Lancashire.
The first offical entry I have for them is 1861 Auckland area in NZ.
Their are miners licences for Thames 1868 as well.
They also had shops in Queen St , Auckland

David HOLDSWORTH 1808/1811ish, Selby, Yorkshire
Mary 1809, Barton upon Humber, Lincolnshire
David 1834, Barton, Lincolnshire
John Torr 1838, Glanford, Lincs
Eliza, 1844, Barton,Lincs
James, 1845, Barton, Lincs
Martin Luther, 1849 Bradford, Lancashire
+ my elusive Ann Elizabeth 1839/1847, Barton, Lincs

I have conflicting evidence of her birthdate and trying to find their arrival might help with this. This is important to establish which of Davids 2 wives named Mary was her Mother Tongue

If the above death reference is your David it would indicate that his daughter Anne Elizabeth married John SHAW  Marriage: 25 MAY 1869, Willow Cottage, Otahuhu, NZ

Hi Hepburn,
I have Martin Luther Holdsworth and wife Sarah Cox and their children but not all grandchildren.
They had 2 sons;

William Martin Luther Holdsworth 1881-1954

George Edward Holdsworth 1883- 1968, married Margaret Hunter, 3 daughters

+ 3 daughters I have nothing on.

Yes, we have been in touch. It is not the NZ end I am reseraching we have done most of that. I am just trying to find them arriving in NZ. Interesting read though isnt it. John and Ann SHAW are my great grandparents Smiley

William Martin Luther HOLDSWORTH married Maud Annie TAYLOR 1910/6928. So a possible son then??

I know you are saying that you're just looking for their arrival in New Zealand  ... BUT  ... as a "passenger list" with their details has not materialised, then it's probably necessary to go off on other tangents in order to find "clues".   

Can you tell us, where you have already searched for "possible" voyage details  ... and are there any likely HOLDSWORTHs who came into Australia ??

      Ive been trawling passenger lists and found a Martin Holdsworth who travelled from NZ to England twice,once in 1955 and then in 1958,I just wondered whether he was one of yours Wink

Thank you so much for all the trouble you have gone to. I have no idea but it is a possibility.

I have no idea if any other siblings/cousins etc of David came to Australia or NZ.
I have over the last 2 yrs followed up on every website and passenger list I could find including scrolling thru year by year on ones not searchable by name-Nothing found.
Possible male siblings of David we have found so far are;

William 1808
Jonathon 1801
Joseph 1806
Robert 1811
Benjamin 1815
All born Selby, Yorkshire, parents Benjamin and Mary.

I will check NZ BMD now to see if I can find any of them Wink

Nothing obvious 1830-1940 Roll Eyes


Look if no one can find anything, please dont waste any more of your time and I will just close this enquiry.
