Burials in St Michael, Coventry
« on: Thursday 02 July 09 06:24 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

From the National Burial Index I have found two burials that I think relate to members of my family but don't know how to access any more information.. in particular, if others are buried with them or in the same cemetery or who purchased the graves. I am hoping someone may be able to advise me on this.

The information I have been able to find is:

John KING, buried 17 Nov 1831, aged 7 months. Denomination: Anglican. Coventry, St Michael Warwickshire

Maria KING, buried 16 Dec 1846, aged 45 years. Denomination: Anglican, Coventry, St Michael, Warwickshire

Thank-you

Question is are the burial at St Michael (now the Cathedral) in central Coventry or are they at Stoke St Michael a suburb of the city (now known as St Chad on the Walsgrave Road, Stoke, Coventry?   If you find they are not the Cathedral (I think by 1931 there would not have been burials there) then try Stoke St Michael.  There is also London Road cemetery if all else fails.
You may be able to get information from Coventry Archives, who have an on-line contact for e-mail.   Best wishes

Thanks Graham,

The deaths were in 1831 and 1846 and I can find no mention of Stoke.

I think I will try sending an e-mail to Coventry Archives and see if they can help.
Thanks again.

Hi there.  My father was buried in St. Michaels Church, Stoke, Coventry in 1959.  To see burials already recorded go to www.internment.net/data/eng/warwickshire/stmichael/index.htm

I have visited the cemetary and appears to have been vandalised at various times and is not well kept.

Good luck.
Alison.

Thanks alisonjar,

I had a look at the site but there are no "King" burials recorded.

That is a shame.  You could contact the clergy at the church and see if they have records.  The graveyard is bad repair and I was lucky to find my fathers grave and he was buried in 1959.
Good luck

Thanks Ali. That suggestion is certainly worth a try.
