My Great Grandmother, Susan Allan Welsh,Bervie

Well folks, I think that I may have gone as far as I can in my research of my Gt Granma Mary Ellen Goodfellow. I can find no trace of her after the birth of her daughters in 1913, when she was 17. In the 1911 Census she is listed as living at hiome and is a dressmaker. I do not know if she married, as after sending for a number of what seemed to be relevant certs, it turns out that they were not the Mary I am looking for. I have searched for a death and cannot find anything relevant to Mary. I do not know where to go and look now. If anyone has any suggestions before I close the book on this one I would be very grateful. She is the only part of my main line that I cannot find in my Goodfellows.
Kind regards, Lynda

Violet died at or soon after birth in 1913. Olive was brought up in Birtley, possibly by her mother Mary or her grandparents, Philip and Rachael Goodfellow. Olive 'ran away' sometime around 1930ish and married my grandfather Charles Macdonald (Jock or Chay) in 1931. He was in the Navy. My father was born in 1932. He had 2 brothers Owen bn 1935 and Rhoderick 1937. They lived in Leeds. Olive died on 23/12/1937, 10 weeks after my uncle was born aged 23. She is buried at Harehill cemetry in Leeds. I have a family wedding picture taken in 1925. It has olive in it. There is also a lady in the front row who may possibly be Mary Ellen Goodfellow. There is a striking resemblence to Olive....it may, however be an aunt. I know thatMary Ellen had sisters, Elizabeth who married John Freak c 1910. Hannah married William Todd c 1923. Her brother Tommy married someone called Freda. As far as I know, The family lived in Portobello, Birtley at this time. They were miners and as far as I can make out worked at Washington Pit. Most of this info is what I have gleaned from my uncle, who was brought up in Birtley by his gt Aunt Alice and gt Uncle Jim Goodfellow. He remained there until he was 10, when Jim died and Alice could not manage anymore. He was then put into a home. There is a part of me thinks that this is strange if his granma was alive, however, I do appreciate that she may have made a 'new ' life for herself and had a new family. I appreciate your interest and i wish that I could find my missing granma.

Hi There, Ordered both these certs with the stipulation that the father was Philip Goodfellow. Likewise with the Edward Fowler one. I also have come across the death of Mary E Goodfellow in Salford in 1918. I had been told that Mary may have died in the flu outbrea in 1918. I probably need to order this death cert to find out for definate. Not feeling very good about this one at the moment though...I had been hoping to find Mary Ellen , happily settled with a family.... , although it would certainly explain why she 'disappeared' after 1913 and why Olive ran away. I just had a feeling about this photo.....they are so similar....ah well....
Regards, Lynda
