Reading all the comments it's fascinating to see how different families were - and are.

My parents were a fund of stories from the past, particularly from the war, when my father was a Conscientious Objector who worked for the ARP and my mother a nurse.  The doodlebug, V2 stories they told me are still vivid in my mind - which reminds me that I must write them down for the tree.

However, I don't recall much conversation with my grandparents, which is a huge pity, as I now really wish I had asked them, and they had told me, much more about their lives, how they met, how they lived as children etc.  Far too late now.

With regard to Kate, I unfortunately missed part of the programme, but I thought how grateful the researchers must have been to find how interesting her ancestors were.  Part of the Great Escape!  with a contemporaneous notebook!  You couldn't make it up.

I would like to applaud the editor who spliced the footage of Bill Humble looking all coy and, well, humble ending with an "oh shucks" gesture, together with the audio of Kate saying what a great man he was. It was like she was talking directly to him, a lovely little sequence.
