Baptism after Marriage? *Completed, Thanks*
« on: Thursday 02 July 09 13:39 UTC (UK) »

A simple question for you all:

I have a William Bubbin(g)s who married a Maria or Martha Flowerday, in Stalham.

The I.G.I. gives the marriage date as 25th Mar. 1811.
The I.G.I. also gives the bride's christening date as 8th Sep. 1833.

That's 22 years later.

Forgive my lack of knowledge in these matters, but is this normal, or is it just a mistake?

Thanks for looking.

Roger The Hat.

Hi Roger,

The record on the IGI is "Submitted" and should be treated with caution until you can check the parish registers.

Thanks, Jan, for the warning,

but is the baptism 22 years after marriage a ridiculous notion? - I haven't got a clue about religious ceremonies!

It is unusual, perhaps a change of heart to a new religion.  Undecided

I wonder if she re-married?

Most were baptised as infants; although one family in my tree had a "block booking" and baptised 6 together......from the 12 year old to the babe in arms!

Let's hope the parish register will solve the mystery.

Yes, I think I have two brothers marrying two sisters, which is nice.

Could be a good idea for a show, if it carries on! Grin

Thanks, Hepburn.

A simple question

The simple answer is that the Sacrament of baptism takes place after a person gets saved. Ref; Romans chap. 10 v. 9.  Authorized version Bible. Regardless as to whether they are married or not.
