Help date and place this mystery photo
« on: Sunday 05 July 09 06:26 UTC (UK) »

Grateful for any assistance in dating and placing the attached photo.

No restoration is required.

I am fairly confident the photo was taken somewhere in Africa during the post 1930's periods, perhaps the styles will enable someone to be a little more precise in both time and place.

To assist, I  have enclosed another similar photos taken at the same time.  Both files are quite small,   I can, perhaps with some difficulty, obtain higher res scanned images if needed.

Any help,  would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Bobm

Morning Bobm and welcome to Rootschat and the photograph restoration and dating board. Your photograph would appear to date from 1947 to possibly 1960. Forgetting the men in the photograph for dating purposes both women are wearing footwear that was common place during the late 40's,1950's and 1960's. The light weight dresses that they have, have a certain style to them that follow the cut and style that Dior designed in 1947 for his London collection, a style that seemed to persist until the up beat fashion revolution of the very eary sixties. The style worn, on the whole, has, what I would term, a Princess Margaret look about it (if you know what I mean).

Thanks for swift response.

I know exactly what you mean when you say the "Princess Margaret look".

Making the assumption these styles would persist a little later in Africa,  a date range of 1955 +- 5 years would, hopefully you agree, be in order. That would make the older european male 40'ish years old.

All I need now is for someone to name and place the location Smiley

Thanks and regards
