Susan Chambers and John Smith
« on: Thursday 02 July 09 18:10 UTC (UK) »

Hi folks   This is a long shot.  Been researching my husbands family tree, and just found out he has Irish roots.  His 3 x great grandparents were John Smith and Susan Chambers who must have come to Scotland (Glasgow) c. 1830's.  Their children were born in Glasgow from around 1838 onwards.  I found from the 1871 census they were living in High Street Glasgow with children and grandchildren, their birthplace given as 'Ireland'.
Is there anyone out there who could throw any light on which county they would have originated from

Irish research is difficult enough pre-registration when you know exactly location but even harder with only 'Ireland' or even a county. You've posted this on Down board- have you any information which points to Co. Down as their place of origin?

My reason for posting on this board is there seems to be quite a few Chambers originating in Co. Down.
Not only am I trying to find the Chambers/Smith connection, but am trying also to find a John Fitzgerald and Margaret Sheriff who were the other set of 3 x grandparents.  Seems I have quite a journey ahead....!

As there isn't a clear Co. Down connection I think this we'd best be able to help you on Ireland-General board. Can't promise to find more details but some people that might be able to suggest where to look might not see your thread under Co, Down board.
