Bugler/Buglar family 1861
« on: Tuesday 30 June 09 19:41 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for the Bugler/Buglar family in 1861. Particularly Henry Richard Bugler, but also his parents William Bugler and Frances Matilda Bugler (Neé Legg). The parents married in Beaminster in 1854 but by 1871 live in Warmwell. Their daughter born in late 1861 lists her birthplace as Rouxel, Dorset (probably Wraxall I guess) and Henry Richard Bugler born ABT 1858 was registered in Yeovil District and lists his birthplace as West Camel, Somerset.

I have searched Ancestry and read through hundreds of pages of census returns without success.

I wonder if someone here can spot them for me.

I have put a link below to a pdf file I have created containing the  text of an individual report generated by Family Historian for William Bugler.

http://www.ardmaddy.demon.co.uk/files/wb.pdf

Many thanks for any help!

I haven't posted this in the Somerset forum as well. Let me know if you think I should. Thanks Smiley

First of all lets get rid of that "about" concerning Henry's birth

Birth
Oct/Nov/Dec 1858
Yeovil reg dist
Henry Richard Bugler

Second - no dont do a duplicate post on another board please! It will only result in people duplicating effort. If specialist Somerset knowledge is later needed then we can think again, but at present I would advise against it.

Next .... I'm off to search the censuses!!!!!

But , like you, I am stumped for 1861.

There are several Buglar's around - even another Henry born at similar time (Sherborne Dorset) and Buglars who move between Sherbourne and Somerset ....

Have you got Henry's birth cert and Willm/Frances's marriage cert to see what clues they give?

I don't, but will get on and order them. Thanks

BTW Persilla is presumably a mis-spelling of Priscilla. Census takers seem to have had some interesting ideas on spelling.

I wondered about that , but in my census searching did see another Persilla in the area (think the surname was Allen or similar) which caught my eye, so just maybe it was a local name, or a family name, at the time.

Thank you for your efforts.

I wonder if they are just mis-transcribed. I have found other Buglars/Buglers transcribed as Bayler and Bingler. Trouble is, since the family seem to have been on the move a little between 1854 and 1871, there is the whole of Dorset/Somerset in which they could be hidden.

usually catch mistrans by omitting surname & searching for a child by forename plus YoB etc - and in Ancestry its poss to specify the parents forenames, so quite a powerful search facility .......

either they got totally missed or they've been lumped in with another household (hence surname wrong) and relationships usually wont work in that scenario .....
