Birth Certificate. William Patrick O'Connor Bethnal Green 1892

Cannot find birth certificate of my father: William Patrick O'Connor (Connor/Connors) born Bethnal Green 1982.  He was registered in the 1901 census and 1911.  Tried BMD and others.  Where else can I look?

Do you know his mother's maiden name in case he was born before the marriage and registered under her surname?

Was 1892 -- possibly March 16.  Lived near St. Matthew's, Bethnal Green.  Mother's name: Annie; Father: John.

Mother's maiden name: Hunt.  But the names quoted could be his grandparents not his parents as Annie would have been 51 when he was born.  No William Patrick born around that date in Bethnal Green.  Is it possible to find his baptism, say in St. Matthews?  Not a very religious family.

In the census of 1991 -- O'Connor.  1901,1911 -- Connor.  Mother? died 1914 as Connor.  William Patrick married St. Matthew's, Bethnal Green as O'Connor.

I'm struggling a bit here.
I can see a William Conner 9 yrs in 1901 (St Matthias) with a grandmother Ann, 59 yrs plus Harry 7 yrs and Edward (single) 39 yrs.
Is this the family?  Undecided

Confusing, I know and it threw me for many years, too.  In the 1911  he was recorded as "Son" and on Annie's death certificate he recorded her as his mother.  An old aunt who died in 2005, sister of my mother, who knew her, mentioned her as Wiliiam Patrick's mother.  But who knows??

well if that is the family, there are births on Free BMD which might fit in Holborn. There is a Harry Connor, 1893 and a William in 1891. These years would fit with the ages but not the birth you have for William.
I can't find Ann or Edward in 1891 either  Huh Roll Eyes (Not doing very well here!)
Were there any other children who could be the parent?

Checked on the Holborn ones and ALL those from 1890 to 1894 in England -- have many birth certificates in the name of William Patrick O'Connor/Connor.  None fit the bill.  I think that I am left with baptisms.  Thanks for your help.  Patrick Minnesota.

Oh dear Patrick - what a shame!

I suppose there are so many variations of the spellings and the possibility of the different first names too.

When you got the various certificates, were you able to match them to families in the censuses?

I was just thinking, that if William was a grandchild of Ann, then the parent name would be different he may have been illegitimate and raised by grandmother.

St Matthew's has a website where it tells you where the records are kept.
