anything before 1/7/1837 you won't get a certificate for. That's the start of civil registration. Before that date, all you can get is a copy of a parish entry and that needs to be ordered from the record office of the county where the event took place.
So Glamorgan for the Merthyr ones

and for the Monmouthshire ones

The cost of a cert is on the site, £7 or equivalent per cert provided you give GRO refs e.g. these registrations
Walter John Powell march qtr 1841 Merthyr Tydfil vol 26 pg 436
Lucy Miranda Powell dec qtr 1839 Merthry Tydfil vol 26 pg 371

death reg
Lucy Miranda Powell june qtr 1840 Merthyr Tydfil vol 26 pg 325

marriage reg
Olive Ann Powell dec qtr 1863 Whitehaven vol 10b pg 837

They post the certs to you and doesn't take too long,  I believe.

Who is Anne Davies?

Sorry Osprey,
I was having one of those days.
I had spent what seemed like days on this d... computer trying to find missing ancestors, and by the time I finished I couldn't remember who was whom.
Anne Morgan is who I meant to say. There was a Davies spouse later on, and because I had been working on both, I switched names. Very clever, don't you think. (I only did it to confuse you)
Thanks for the information, I'll now be able to order some certs. and nail a few people down, then I can move on to the next lot.
There seem to have been a hell of a lot of Powells in the Merthyr Tydfils or Glamorgan and Brecon areas. Just trawling through RootsChat, I'm amazed at how many there are.
I'll say this for the Powell's, they seem to have been very fruitfull. My own Grandmother, Amelia May Powell (nee Thearle) had seven children, and for the size of her (she was a little lady) I honestly don't know how she coped.
Again, thanks for the assistance, and I'll keep in touch.

Good grief Osprey,
I would never have thought of categorising names into areas like that.
I knew I was coming across quite a few Powells, but blimey, that takes the cake.
It's quite obvious where my line comes from, and isn't it funny, that even before I knew the line went back to Wales, I always had a thing about visiting there.
So now I'm too old and crochety to do it, but my daughter can do it for me.

She is going to have to take hundreds of photos.
Actually last time she was over there, about 2 years ago, she took roughly 700 phots. and it took me ages to look through them all on the computer. But worth every minute.

Wales & Scotland have always been my "thing" to do, (you know, like a bucket list), England, London in particular, really don't interest me.

If I want to see a city I can go back to Sydney, and that's exactly why I left it. Can't stand the rat race.

And then - where did I move to -- the Australian Capital Territory, along with all the politicians. However, I live just over the border in New South Wales, so the hot air doesn't quite make it to here.

I must show my daughter the National Trust site. That should convince her that she needs to see that area.

Thanks osprey, you've given me a very pleasant surprise.
