Hi,

I have all the details now, including newspaper report of the sinking and the inquest 18 weeks later. Also details of the rescue of one of the crew. Ship was the "Tredegar" We have just surveyed the wreck at work so hope to get pictures of it on the sea bed shortly. I am also writing something about John for a book on Wye Trowmen.

please contact me off board,

Peter

(I have Syners in the FOD back to 1625 which will be of interest)

"raychel"

I believe John (c.1671) could very well be the eldest son of Michael and Ann Syner who was baptised in Benthall, Shropshire in 1674. He had a younger brother Richard who could have been the trowman who died in 1730 and married Jane. Michael himself was one of six trowmen brothers and is recorded visiting Chepstow in 1683. I think Richard worked under John until his mariage when he set up on his own. I think the move was c.1699

Although not the earliest Syner in the Forest area I do think the above is likely. (I have at least four more generations back but the earliest trowman I have is 1637.)

I had only picked up William 1789, Richard 1784 and Sarah 1787. I think a Michael would certain add weight to the theory.

I would be very interested  in seeing or having a copy of this, if at all possible.

FYI the tree going backwards is;

John 1674 - 1728
Michael 1652 -1720
John c1624 - ?
Thomas c1604 -1659
Thomas 1582 - 1655
John c.1555 - 1602

Hi Margaret,

I have John's death certificate but there won't be anything remaining of where he probably was buried (thanks to WWII) other than an open space.

Feel free to PM me your plans and I'll see what I can help you with.
