Fawkner Memorial Park Cemetery **COMPLETED**
« on: Thursday 02 July 09 00:18 UTC (UK) »

Hi there,

Does anyone know if the above cemetery has been transcribed at all?

Or does some one live near it that could take photos of grave/plaques for me.

Can supply names via PM

Hi Robyn,

I have the link to the cemetery but am wanting to know if the headstones/plaques have been transcribed or not.

Have had a look on [RAOGK] and have not seen a volunteer for it or one that would be close by.

Any ideas please. I am in NZ and do not know much about some of these cemeteries are.

Hi Newbe Grin

I have not come across any transcription resources of MI's for Fawkner.  There is a RAOGK volunteer...I will pm you.

If it is a cremation/plaque it would pay to check if the lease has expired.  They are only for 25 years.  Email contact on website.

Cheers

Have sent email so will wait and see when I get a reply.

Have had another look at the ones that were cremated and can see no expiry date for lease.

Hopefully I will find out more for the email.

From their website

25-YEAR TENURE & PERPETUITY EXPLAINED
All cremation memorials purchased at Fawkner Memorial Park prior to 1984 were sold in perpetuity (forever). Cremation memorials in perpetuity will be here for the life of our cemetery.

Following a Trust decision, we entered into cremation memorial tenure arrangements in 1984 - allowing for cremation memorials to be purchased in 25-year tenure periods.

From 1984 to 2005, all cremation memorials sold at Fawkner Memorial Park were with 25-year tenure. We did not sell cremation memorials in perpetuity during this period.

In 2005, following a change in the Cemeteries & Crematoria Act, we introduced perpetuity cremation memorials. We also established a conversion fee, for those who had purchased a cremation memorial with 25-year tenure and were looking to convert this into perpetuity.

Thanks for that bit of info Cando but as they died in 1946 and 1965 and were cremated there should be some kind of plaque there I hope.

Am not sure about the ones that died in 1931, 1946 and 1964. I hope there is a headstone as the mother and her daughter and son-in-law are buried next door to each other

Hi All,

The cemetery sent me the photos I requested.
The ones for the plaque's came out good but the ones for the graves are not good

One just had a surname and the other one was hard to read but the wife's name was missing on it.

I was not expecting to see photos when I got home from work so that was a bonus
