Good afternoon,
I would be very grateful for help in finding detais from the 1861, 1871, 1891 & 1901 Censuses for the following household:
Charles HEAVENS b. Lydiard Tregoze, Wilts c1840. Occ. Tailor. Amelia (wife néé probably PAGE) b. Lewes c1842
They were married in Brighton in 2Q 1860 (the Bmd result has blanks but I found the date of 22nd April 1860 on IGI)
They may have had a first child, Charles A. J. Heavens by the 1861 census, but not sure.
By 1871 they appear to have had 3 more children: - Fanny Amelia b. Camberwell, Surrey 1864 - Robert H. b. Croydon 1866 - Frank George b. Lewes 1870
In 1881 the familywas living at 1 Waterloo Place, Lewes, and there were 4 more children: - Willie Owen b. Lewes 1872 - Alfred Ernest b. Lewes 1875 - Walter Sidney b. Lewes 1877 - Ellen Sarah b. Lewes 1879
Amelia the mother died in Lewes in 1892 so Charles would appear as a widower - unless remarried - in 1901.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Nick

1901 RG13/911/53/14
Burgess Hill, Keymer, Sussex
Charles Heavens, 62 Eliza Davey,24, Servant, tailoress, Swafield, Sussex
This one is wrongly transcribed as havers on An*****Y but is definitely him. Also he has himself as married but if you know that Amelia has died, I'd imagine that was just a slip of the tongue on census night!

Good evening Jen, Chris,
You have both been more than helpful ! Thank you kindly for all that information, which has given me almost everything I needed.
Curiously enough I have been unable to find a Bmd record for the first child, Charles b. 1861, but then FreeBmd is known to have gaps at times...........
Likewise Charles the father doesn't seem to figure in the FreeBmd records. His parents were Angel HEAVENS & Mary HUNT. Do you have access to other listings or databases ? Familysearch doesn't figure the baptism for Charles either for some reason, only the birth c1839 in the 1881 Census which I have.
Many thanks once again for your time and trouble.
Nick

Good evening again Jen,
Thanks for the 1841 details which enabled me to check what I had noted.
Just for the record, Angel is a name that runs in the Heavens family; my 3 x Great grandfather in direct line is also called Angel Heavens ! Many is the time that I've been told you would have had to invent it !
Good evening Jan,
I think you've succeeded in hitting the nail on the head with your Bmd find. Many thanks for that. To boot he's also callled Angel, after his father, and Highworth is certainly the district for Lydiard Tregoze.
Much appreciated and much obliged to you both for your extra help.
Nick
