Where might they have come from?
« on: Saturday 04 July 09 12:29 UTC (UK) »

I have traced my DAVI(E)S line back to my 7th Gr-Grandparents and their marriage in 1700 in Longney, Gloucestershire.  The parish register indicated her name to be Margarach PAYN and his to be Jona DAVI(E)S.  There was no other information except that they lived locally.  I have been unable to trace them back to their birth places.  I know that they or their ancestors were from Wales but I have no idea what part.  I also know that the name has been represented in parish registers over the centuries variously as DAVIS and DAVIES (with some families having several children listed as DAVIES and others as DAVIS) and that my Granfather put the 'E' back in permanently.

Can anyone suggest where they may have come from or how I might proceed?  Thanks.
