Carter Crest
|
Thomas carter was born in Little Hatfield in 1794. He married Susannah Hodge 6th June 1826 in Burton Pidsea.
They had 8 children, all except 1 were born in Burton Pidsea, the other in Ellerby. Charles 1833, Christopher 1828, John 1829, Henry 1831, Isaac 1837, Edward 1839 and William 1840 were Burton Pidsea.
William 1835 to 1835 was Ellerby.
I have a date of Dec 1852 for Thomas's death, but cannot find a record to confirm this. I also cannot find any reference to who his parents were. This is why I was after the death certificate for additional information.
Can anyone help please?
I have Charles, William and Isaac traced to current day in Australia if this is of interest to any one else.
Cheers
Nev

Hi Nev and welcome to rootschat.
Just to avoid you being disappointed...19th C. death certs don't contain much family info-parents, spouses etc are not named. You can get lucky with the informant being a family member but that is chance.
You'll get parents' names on birth certs and fathers' names on marriage certs.

Yes, Nev, Aus death certs are wonderfully informative- assuming the informant knew the facts. English DC by comparison on very short on leads... As you've said, go fo the marriage certr.
Let us know how this pans out.

Hullo again, The civil reg of marriages starts in 1837 so BDMs must be for after that date. T
the site on which you can check such events and get GRO number to order certs if .... freebmd
Transcriptions for the site are up to abt the 1920s so that covers about 80 yrs of civil reg.

When you get the GRO reference for the cert you want this link should take you to the order site. It costs 7GBP per cert.

Hi Nev,
Can I ask how you know Thomas Carter's birthplace and year?
Little Hatfield wasn't a parish in it's own right - it came under the parish of Sigglesthorne, which is - supposedly - covered by the IGI. There are absolutely no Carter baptisms in Sigglesthorne on the IGI.
Also, if you look at the relevant page on Genuki:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/Sigglesthorne/index.html
you'll see that, even in the early 1820s, the population of Little Hatfield was only 25!!
It's possible that the family were nonconformists and that would explain why there are no Carter baptisms in the parish church. Are you absolutely sure about your info?
Susannah Hodge's baptism is on the IGI - 20 July 1806 Aldbrough d/o Christopher & Mary. Looking at the names of Thomas & Susannah's children in date order, it looks as if they have named their first son Christopher after Susannah's father. Perhaps one of the other boys' names is that of Thomas' father?
Nev,this rings a slight bell - have I already looked for the 1826 marriage in Burton Pidsea to see if there is any additional info? (I loose track!!). If not, I'll do so next time I go to the Record Office.
Jill
