I have seen a couple of family trees of late where the source of their ancestral information was listed - and this was from a source that I hadn't previously considered investigating.
Therefore I was wondering what sources, in general, other RootsChatters have used to prove their ancestral records.
Obviously there are the standard ...
Birth, Marriage and Death certificates Wills Parish Registers
Plus a few extras like:
School Records Hearth Tax Records Poll Taxes
I'd be interested to see what other sources are around as well as I'm sure I've unknowingly missed checking some in my quest to prove a relationship from 3 independent sources.

Military records? CWGC ?
border crossings[Canada/USA]? passport/visa application? Elliz Island?
[military recordsneed to be treated with caution as my father's official record is up the creek... surname misspelled, occupation incorrect etc.. ]

Irish research can often be difficult so I tend to use a variety of sources perhaps not used in other places where records are much easier to access. Church records- communicants lists, pew/stipend lists, graveyard trespass records (burial fee for non-members) Landlords' records- tenants lists, notes on tenants, estate records Valuation records Voting Lists Pension claims

Di agree MIs can be fabulous- with all the dates of birth and death and relationships.
Professional Directories and Who's Who... that's a great source of detail.
