THOMAS/VINER help please

Hi all,

I'm trying to find information on a THOMAS family from Somerset/Bristol, not sure, as passenger lists for the family differ as one list has Somerset as birthplace and another list has Bristol.

From the passenger lists of the "Hastings" in 1857 en route to Australia it lists the Thomas family as:

William Thomas  37 Carpenter
Jane Thomas  36  (Jane's maiden name was VINER)
William R Thomas  10
Walter  7
Emily  5
Eliza Charlotte  1

On this list it has Birthplace listed as 'Somerset' for all the family, except Eliza Charlotte.

I'm trying to find William's parents and Jane's parents as well as a marriage for William to Jane.  Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Have you got a child's birth cert? Is that where Jane's maiden name cam from? I cant see a marriage on FreeBMD

Theres a family in Bristol thats a match on names, but not ages for the parents.

Do you have an occupation for William Snr from a childs Cert ? Wood Turner and Carpenter look good tho ...

Thanks for your replies and your help with this.  Have only got a Death Certificate for one of the children, Emily Jane, and it says William Thomas Snr was a carpenter and Emily Jane Viner as mother.  That's what's confusing me, on the passenger list it has 'Jane' and on the death certificate it has 'Emily Jane' but can't find a birth for either an Emily Jane or a Jane Viner.

Also, finding it hard to track down a marriage for William and Jane.  Have searched the IGI but nothing there either.

Thanks for the Census information.  Do you think it's worth putting a posting on the Gloucestershire board as well?
