1871, 1891 & 1901 Census details - James & Sarah WRIGHT
« on: Friday 03 July 09 15:25 UTC (UK) »

Good afternoon,

I would be grateful if anyone would be kind enough to hunt out the Census details for 1871, 1891 and 1901 for the following household please:

James WRIGHT b. Great Smeaton 1839.  Occ: Tailor
Sarah Elizabeth (née THOMPSON) wife b. Osmotherly

They were married in 1866 and by 1871 would have had 3 children:

- George Wright b. 1866
- Ann b. 1868                      All born Osmotherly
- William b. 1870

In 1881 the family was still living in Osmotherly (6 West Side) with the following children:

- George
- Ann
- Thomas b. 1876
- Fred b. 1879                   All born Osmotherly
- Guy b. 1881

It should be noted that 3 children apparently died in 2ndQ 1877: Herbert (b. 1874) aged 2, James (b. 1876) aged 5, William aged 7

NB: James the father was originally born James GOULDSBROUGH or GOLDSBROUGH (or variant), before the marriage of his parents, taking his mother's name. The 1881 Census however records him now as James WRIGHT, after his father. I am not sure whether in 1871 he carried the name of WRIGHT or not.

There is a record of another male child born possibly in 3rdQ 1882, but I have no first name.

Any help with this one would be appreciated.

Nick

Good afternoon Cat,

A great many thanks for your time and trouble. Particularly useful as I didn't know that James had probably died before 1900 and Sarah re-married.

Much appreciated. Thanks once again.

No problem, let me know if you want any of the children tracing. (In 1901 son Fred appears to boarding in Stockton on Tees, with a Reed family from Osmotherley, probably relatives of his new stepfather?)
