If they were C of E then you should be able to find a baptism etc. in the online parish registers for Stone http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/

Casalguidi, I have looked at the site but no luck, if she was not C. of E. where else could I looked please. The only info. my son in law has given me is that his Mother was Florence Elizabeth Bates, her Mother (D) in Stone House around 1924 when Florence was about 13yrs. I did find a (B) on the free. B.M.D site Florence A.E. Sept. 1911 Dartford 2a 1254, when I sent for the cert. to The Certificate Centre, The Mansion House, 39 Grove Hill Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent which was the address I was given, they telephoned to say they do not have this person reg. so I am confused. Florence was never (M) so there is no (M) cert. info. given to me. I have looked at the (D) list on free B.M.D site for a BATES (do not know first name) and all the ladies listed are far too old around 1924 to have a daughter of 13yrs. Can you please give me some suggestions as to where I can go from here. Thank you.

Hi Moors
I would suggest starting at the most recent known reference(s) and work back from there ie. when/where did Florence Elizabeth BATES die and what is her age/date and or place of birth given for that reference. Where was she as a child/when her mother died/later in life? Who took care of here whilst her mother was in hospital/when she died?
The asylum at Stone was for London residents as far as I am aware so if this lady had children before entering the asylum it is very likely that they weren't born in Dartford or do you know different?

Hmmm, the GRO index gives Florence Ann WIGGAN (no Elizabeth) for the death registration
The Florence Annie Elizabeth BATES who I think you were looking at earlier was baptised 8 Jul 1911 Stone nr Dartford dau of Arthur Ernest & Sarah Kate of 132 Charles Street, labourer. Her birth is registered as Florence A E Wells BATES Sep quarter 1911 Dartford registration district - I wonder if that could be her - it's not Greenwixh or Woolwich
Just in case it is significant, the parents were Sarah Kate (WELLS maybe) bc1878 Kent and Arthur Ernest bc1881 Kent (ages from 1911 census index). There is an Ernest S BATES born 1913 Woolwich district with mothers maiden name of WELLS which could be a connection but there again maybe not as there are quite a number of BATES children being born in the London area with mothers maiden name of WELLS. If we can find out a bit more about this Arthur Ernest BATES and Sarah Kate (WELLS) - perhaps from their marriage if it is on Medway Cityark - then it may help to try and find what became of them
Did you look at the actual burial registers for Stone Cemetery via the way of death project see imagebase on Medway Cityark

To see the full 1911 census details you will need to purchase credits though you can play around with the advanced search features and enter birthplaces, places of residence etc. - they appear to be in Stone. If you feel sure that it is the correct birth ref. for Florence I would get back on to Tunbridge Wells and ask where the registers for Stone/Dartford are if they do not have them or else order direct from the GRO. The GRO, as far as I am aware, is still £7 http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ whilst some of the Kent ones charge more for postage or at least they did the last time I ordered one.

Yes, I think that is the correct certificate too
Did you look through the cemetery records for Stone Cemetery via the imagebase (not parish registers) and Way of Death project on Medway Cityark
I wonder what Arthur did in WW1 - he would have been of the right age to serve in some capacity if he was able/still alive
