Have you tried the 1911 Irish Census on-line, were there is access to Donegal.

1911 census for Co Donegal- www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search

Since Doherty is the most common surname in Donegal it may be difficult to find this particular William Doherty.

thanks v much, yep it is hard with the name!!

also i cant be sure where he was born tbh, it could be donegal or derry...and it was all the one back then! Groan!!!

I do know who he married....I wonder how i could get marriage records for buncrana???

Londonderry and Donegal are two separate counties and Muff is certainly in Co. Donegal which is why I moved your post to Donegal board.

yes indeed...

I need marriage records for buncrana parish, is it a matter of visiting the separate churches?? I suppose I could plan a trip!
