Hi,
I have Joseph McCahon from Derry, Ireland in my tree. He married Jane Snipe and had a son, James (b. 1839 - Kilrea, Derry, Ireland). Wondering if this is any connection to your George?
James arrived in Australia in 1854 and married Mary Jane Leigh.

Welcome to Rootschat.
Snipe/Knipe is certainly a surname found in the Kilrea area but McCahon (and its various spellings) is very common in both Kilrea and Co. Londonderry.
However, in this case the records for First Kilrea Presbyterian Church still survive and transcipts are online.

In regards to your rare McAughey information, I would be highly interested in discussing with you.
My great grandfather Charles Ephraim James was born here in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. After doing some research I believe his mother died around the time of his birth. (1862).
Charles's mothers name was Sarah McAughey. She married Edmund James at the age of about 21 in Melbourne, 1860. It states she was a servant and was from Aberdeen, Scotland.
I also noted that Sarah's parents were Joseph McAughey and Jenny Snipe. I am very intrigued on whether Sarah had any brothers/sisters and if they all came to Melbourne together. I would be delighted if you may be able to help me as it would be so greatly appreciated. History of the McAughey family would be wonderful!

Thank u for the reply. From the certificate it had her name as JENNY snipe, would it be possible she changed her name? or could this be a totally different person?

Jenny, Jeannie (more commonly used in Ulster than Jenny), Jean, etc. are all variations of the name Jane.

I hope I am on the right track now, but it also states Sarah McAughey was from Aberdeen Scotland...
Where do I locate these records you speak of?

I can't explain why your Sarah's birthplace is given as Aberdeen, Scotland when what seems to be her family was clearly in Moyknock, Londonderry for the period around her birth (many people from this area travelled back and forth from Ireland to Scotland but usually went to Glasgow/Ayrshire, etc. on the west coast and Aberdeen's quite a distance away on the east coast).
