I've just found a grt grt aunt - Clementine Tudor, born abt 1848 in Liverpool in His Majestiy's Prison, Birmingham on the 1901 census.  She states she's still married.  Can anyone tell me if I can contact someone on how to find out why she's in prison in Birmingham (this family never left Liverpool)! and what her crime & punishment was for?

Hi Hazel, I found one of mine in Quarter Sessions records by putting her name into A2A... now you'd put the name into TNA I think.  When the name came up I then paid a modest sum to get details of the trial and sentence.  This was a few years ago but it might be worth trying -

Is Clementine there also in 1891 census?  If not then you'd knowww a bit about the time frame involved. Check in 1911 census to see if she's still in prison.
