James Nairn

Can someone please help with information on my GG Grandfather James Nairn, born in 1830 I think? He was married to Barbara Soward. They had a son called James (1852-1926) (not sure if there were any other children) who married Jane Reid (1854-1924). Their daughter was Mary Littlejohn Nairn (1877-1959) Again, am not sure if there were any other children. Mary was married to Robert Kerr. Thanks in anticipation. Lyn

Hi Lyn and welcome to rootschat.
Can you tell us where your GGgrandafther was born? place if you know it, if not the country at least
Have you any clues when/where he married Barbara Soward?
This gives some pointers
There is a good website "freebmd" that is worth searching and it may have some answers for you, but in any case, can youtell us a bit more so maybe we can help?

Hi Charlotte
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry, have no idea where GG Grandad was born. His son James' death was registered in the district of Pollokshields in the Burgh of Glasgow on 20th December 1926. He lived in Govan Road, Glasgow. I have that death certificate but some of it is difficult to read. I am assuming that his father lived around that area. Sorry, don't know when GG grandad married Barbara Soward. Hope this helps.
Will try 'freebmd'. Thanks for that.
Regards Lyn

Hi Lyn,
Welcome to RootsChat
Even though it's been a while since your post I wonder if you have the info yet?
Using the IGI website,
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0bq/
I found,
James NAIRN Barbara SWORD Marriage: 23 DEC 1843 Panbride, Angus, Scotland
I found this family in 1861,

James NAIRN 36 Ploughman Kennell, Forfarshire Barbra 34 Barry, Forfarshire Margret 12 Scholar Inverkeilor, Forfarshire David 10 " " James 8 " " Thomas 6 " " Barbra 3 "
Strangely I can find the christenings of all the children on the IGI (the earlier ones in Panbride) except James
Possiblr marriage for james jnr,
James NAIRN Jane REID 31 DEC 1874 Old Monkland, Lanark
In 1891 James jnr and family are living in Glasgow

Hi Daisy,
Thanks for the information re James Nairn. It is very helpful as I haven't managed to get anywhere.
I wasn't sure if Barbara's second name was Soward or Sword as it was difficult to read on James Nairn's death certificate. I also have James Nairn jnr as a tailor.
I am about to go on an overseas trip (I reside in Australia) but will follow up on your information when I get back.
Again many thanks.
Regards Lyn
