Thank you so much for your quick reply. have searched the 2nd website and although no further on - have found a lead on his sister which is great.
It definatley says Ann formerly McGovern on the birth certificate of their child. John Blurton and Ann McGovern. Her mother was called Ann McGovern as well. Are there any Catholic churches in the area?
Thank you Elissa

Is it possible that Ann McGovern could have married a Goodband and have been widowed, subsequently remarrying John Blurton?

I think it might be the case but have scoured records for two years to find a McGovern marrying a Goodband and cannot find one. There have been family rumours of an Irish connection which is why my only thought might be a Catholic church in the area. From that list might be able to locate one. Thank you. The child they had was Margaret Blurton (my G Grandmother)

Greeting’s Folks……

I can confirm via my Full Transcript of Marriage 1837 ~ 97. St: Margaret’s Church
That there is NO Marriage of a John Blurton ~ Ann McGovern.
At St: Margaret’s Parish Church.

The only one in fact is below :~

Entry No.464,  OCT  7, 1875, after Banns
Richard Chiswell, 21, Bachelor. Shoe Finisher, Of Swan St,
Son.. of Lawrence Chiswell, Shoe Finisher.

MARY BLURTON, 21, Spinster. of SWAN St,
Daughter. of BENJAMIN BLURTON., STOKER
Wits: William Blurton, Eliza Chiswell

Therefore Coming from another angle…….

I see that on the 1861 Census returns for City of Leicester

RG 9. / 2298. / 26. / Page. 18.

We find a Blurton Family headed by Benjamin
With both a Son John aged 14.
And a daughter Mary aged. 7.

So can we say that’s one side of the equation settled ?

Unfortunately the same logic did not prove as successful
In fact there was No Macgovern s recorded in Leicester & Leicestershire
Census returns 1861..

Hope this helps in some way

MIKE.
