If anyone wouldn't mind, next time you are in the AK Bell Library in Perth, could you lookup an article for me?

I have seen in the online Card Index that there was a newspaper article about my relative James KEAY who drowned after a rowing accident on the Tay in 1895. I have his death Certificate, and it tells me that there was an enquiry, but little else.  The next entry on the death Cert is for another young man (James GALLOWAY) who also drowned from the same incident. They were both Dyers by trade; aged only 20 and 22 respectively.  Family history remembers that they hit a bridge whilst training and several of those onboard drowned?

Here are the details: An article in the Perth newspaper (Perthshire Advertiser, 16th August, 1895; page 3, col 3) covers the incident - copies kept at the AK Bell Library, Local Studies Department, Perth.

Alternatively in the Perth Constitutional and Journal {PJ?}, 24/8/1895, page 4.
(I'm sure I won't need both!)

I'd be very grateful for any help here.
Regards
Lisa

Hi Lisa
I found the article, and follow-ups. Too long to post here, so would you PM with your email address please.

Thanks very much, Isabel!

I'd like to mention how much detail was available from this resource and it was full of drama too!  I can thoroughly recommend looking for articles in the local press when you have a relative who dies in a mysterious way.

The articles which Isobel found also gave the names of 4 other young men involved in the Rowing Accident, so I'll give them here and maybe that will help someone else.  PM me if you'd like to know more.

Rowing Accident on the Tay, Perth, Scotland, August 1895
4 men died, of ages 20-23.
James GALLOWAY, James KEAY, Charles McQUHAE and George FLEMING.

Also the young coxswain, Robert ALLAN, who survived.

All the best to kind listers everywhere,
Lisa
