Scott - captain william scott
« on: Monday 06 July 09 17:41 UTC (UK) »

Still trying to track down elusive g-g-grandfather.  Have established he was born in Glasgow around 1817(but don't know who his parents are) and eventually moved to Edinburgh, where he married Mary Amelia Lawrence (born Hamilton around 1804) in1840.   They lived in Leith and had three children - Isabella, Mary and William.  Can track down Isabella as she is g-g-grandmother, but can't find Mary or William.  Established William snr was in Barry, S Wales in 1901 at time of census (visiting family) but then I loose him again and rest of family.   If anyone can help would be very appreciated!

Have just checked this and a copy of the register indicates that this William Scott was aged 30 at death, not 90! so will discount it for now - thank you, but suspect transcription was erroneous.

I remember your William Scott www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,326811.0.html  Smiley

Who was the family that he was visiting in Barry? I can see the  household was headed up by an Ann Moffat, 52, b. Glasgow.

His daughter married William Eidman, a marine engineer, and the family lived in Penarth which is about 4 miles away from Barry.  There were three grown up children by then so perhaps they simply didn't have the room to accommodate him and he stayed in a boarding house in Barry.   Or perhaps they didn't get on!  From other family research, the house they had in Penarth was quite substantial, so don't really know why he didn't stay there.
