Knott versus Seabrook Great Haseley
« on: Tuesday 07 July 09 10:28 UTC (UK) »

I was confused after seeing the answers to my post on the 5th June regarding the Knott family from Great Haseley who were lost at sea, now I am even more confused.
The embarkation details also gives the names of the family as Knott of Great Haseley as does the list of the deaths so could some person please explain why in the 1841 census of Great Haseley the following family appears.
Charles Seabrook  35
Rebecca Seabrook  40
Matthew Seabrook 14
Joseph Seabrook    10
John Seabrook          8
Charles Seabrook     6
Ann      Seabrook      4
Rebecca Seabrook    2

This is obviously the same family  so why the change of name? Rebecca's birth registered as Knott  and James who appears in the shipwreck list his birth registered as Seabrook in 1843 Thame Reg Dist.
And I thought identity fraud was a modern problem.

Dennis,

How very odd.   Rebecca is shown in the PR as "SEABROOK" as are the others.

I have an unexplained change of surname in my family (strangely from very nearby Great Haseley).

I wonder what Rebecca's birth certificate says ??
