Christopher CLARK(E) - England and Ireland
« on: Wednesday 08 July 09 02:28 UTC (UK) »

Andy,

I am Cathy Clark Tenpenny, residing in Tennessee, USA.  I am the ancestor of William Wright Clark born abt 1795 in Madison County Kentucky.  William was the son of Christopher Clark(e).  Christopher was purported to have been born in Northern Ireland sometime around 1754(?).  Christopher was a doctor, lawyer, clergyman (Rev. in Church of Ireland or England and later became a Methodist), and historian.  It is known that he was well educated in Ireland and England.  We have not been able to locate the date and ship by which he came to America nor do we have information on his parents or specific colleges attended.  We have contacted Oxford Univ, Cambridge Univ. and I am trying to contact Trinity College in Dublin to see if he matriculated there.  Any ideas on how we can tract down Christopher's missing info?  The surname was perhaps originally Clarke and later the "e" was dropped.  Also, William Clark had a son Peter Wirght Clark born in Kentucky.  Many thanks.  Cathy Clark Tenpenny, B.A., Paralegal

Hi Cathy and welcomem to rootschat Grin

Your man sounds very interesting.  Durham is a very old English University so you might like to add that to your list if others come up with nothing.  Durham also had/has  a fine Divinity School.
Trinity College Dublin could well be the place where your info is..

I don't think the variation in spelling - with an "e" or without is significant..
Good luck and let us know how this works out .
