Help!
I am trying to find a link between William BEVAN b.15 October 1879, Hereford and Isabella BEVAN b. 1859 Orcop/Garway Hill Herefordshire, daughter of John BEVAN/BEAVAN and Elizabeth (Eliza) GOUGH. I have not been able to find William's birth records. I do know that Isabella married William NORMAN in 1884 in Birmingham. William did not find out that Isabella was his mother until he was older. He thought he was living with his aunt. The 1891 census shows William with Isabella and William NORMAN living in Tipton although he is shown as a 'visitor.' I have not been able to find either Isabella BEVAN or William BEVAN in the 1881 census. Any help or advice would be most welcome.
Regards Susan

Where does the info about William come from - his date of birth, the fact that he was brought up by an aunt, the fact that he later discovered Isabella was his mum etc etc....

Hi William was my grandfather. His WW1 records state he was born in Hereford about 1879 (exact date not given). My mother remembers his birthday as 5th October. She also says that he was brought up with someone he believed to be his aunt but turned out to be his mother. She knows that Williams's mother (christian name not known) married a Mr Norman and that they lived in the Dudley area. I found them on the 1891 census with William, but he is listed as a visitor, aged 11. I then found a marriage for Isabella Bevan to William NORMAN in 1884 (cert held).William BEVAN went on to marry Mary Hannah MORTON in 1907. I have also found information and a tree on familysearch.org
This is a difficult jigsaw to put together as my mother's older brothers and sisters have now all passed away.
Any help, advice or information would be much appreciated.
Regards Susan

That is helpful.
I can see Isabella and her family in 1871 RG10 2702 77 13 Orcup John 54 Eliza 50 Joseph 17 Isabella 12 John 9
then in 1881 her mother is still in Orcop, but neither Isabella or little William are there Eliza 58 widow John 18
We know that Isabella does not marry till later, but I wonder if she is living with William's father and he and Wm using his name?

I don't think it is this one. I have the birth certificate and it states William Beavan - father and Harriet Beavan formerly Ireland - mother. DOB 15th November 1879. We think William was born out of wedlock.

Thanks
I know that Isabella married William Norman on 24th December 1884 (I have the certificate).
I also know that Isabella's parents were probably John BEVAN/BEAVAN and Elizabeth (Eliza) GOUGH.
I can't find her birth either. She was born in 1859 but the only birth I can find gives an Isabella with parents listed as George Bevan and Eliza Bevan formerly Jones which is incorrect as Isabella gives her fathers name as John on her marriage certificate to William Norman.
If I can solve this puzzle I will be able to trace the family back as I belive John was the brother of James Bevan who went to America.
Help!!!

Isabella seems to have had quite a few siblings; have you traced all of them through the 1881 census to see if Isabella and baby William are living with them?

Hi
Isabella's marriage certificate gives her age ag 24 and she married in December 1884 so her birth might be 1860. The birth certificate I ordered for March quarter of 1859 is for an Isabella whose parents are George Bevan and Eliza Beven formerly Jones. So this is not the one. Her marriage certificate states her fathers name was John Bevan.
The infomation in the 1861 cenus seems to be my Isabella although Unis should read Eunice and Allis should read Alice.
If this is the correct family I know that James, brother of John junior went to the USA.
The hunt goes on.
Thanks to all who are trying to help me.

Alice Clara Bevan was born in 1856, John in 1861 and Isabella in December 1858 born in Orcop and registered at Kentchurch, Joseph and Eliza all have paernts as John and Eliza[beth] Bevan/beavan nee Gough . John married Eliza Gough in 1840
Why not get Alice's Birth Certificate from Hereford Register Office and see the parents details. There can be errors on Certificates, and perhaps she thought her father's name was Jogn as he was dead by the time of her marriage. A John Bevan died in 1876 aged 60 wich could be him. Also he could have been called George at home to diiferentiate and a father also called John.
In Clodock there is a birth for a Sophia where the parents are George and Eliza.
On the 1851 Census for Orcop there are at least 2 families I can spot. John and Elizabeth with Eunice 3, Elizabeth 8 months, and Edith 3 and others I only have an Index, can anyone post the details of the Orcop Bevans in 1851 please ?
