I am really stumped on MAIN family can anyone help??
« on: Thursday 09 July 09 09:19 UTC (UK) »

I am having trouble knowing where to find my grandfather's death certificate. I have tried unsuccessfully on Scotland on line. I can find him in the 1901 census, also found his marriage  cert. but not his death. There are so many James Main out there. He is the son of James & Margaret Main (nee Allan) & was born Dec 26th 1882 at Stonehaven. Dunnottarr Parish Kincardine.  Married Barbara Jane McKay Feb 22nd Nigg  I believe he died approx 1943 - 48.
Living in Australia is proving to be a real challenge on this occasion. Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Barbaras death is on SP. she died in Cruden, Aberdeen  1940 so would look for James there.

hi rubianne  Smiley

from the information diddy has found -

in the years that you suggested(1943 - 1948) there are only 2 deaths in
aberdeenshire on SP
james main death 1944 aberdeen aberdeenshire born c1883
james main death 1944 aberdeen aberdeenshire born c1884

or
james main death 1952 aberdeen aberdeenshire born c1883

that's the only deaths in aberdeenshire for james main between 1930 - 2006
with a birth year of 1882 + or - 3 years

unless he moved from aberdeenshire after his wifes death  Undecided

Thank you Diddy & Ev - I now have the information with your help. Can you please let me know if living children are included on death certificates of that time?? My parents are both gone & I have little information on my dad's brothers & sisters.

Once again, thanks for your help/kindest regards

Hi Rubianne,

Unfortunately the children are not on the death certificate like they are in oz. You may be lucky to have one of the children as the informant on the certificate.
You will find the persons husband/wife, parents with mothers maiden name and occupations.
Iam sure someone will correct me if Iam wrong here. Smiley

I will try putting the name from cert in SP search.

I have achieved more in the last 24 hours since joining this forum & really appreciate the help I have received.

Hi Rubianne,

Great to know you are getting somewhere with your family tree Smiley
With the info Diddy and ev have given it should be easy to find James and Barbara's death cert.

If you do a death search at SP putting Main in the surname box and McKay in the mother's maiden name box you get 7 results (3 died at Aberdeenshire).

It will only cost 1 credit to look at their names and approx. year of birth. Hopefully you may spot 'family names' and from that be able to pinpoint sibling of your dad.

Unfortunately you won't be able to view the actuall entries online as they are past the cut off but it may be worth it for a wee step forward.

Regards,
Nel
