Help required please with place - Tynycraig
« on: Thursday 09 July 09 12:51 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Wondered if SKS could help me out.  Just heard my ancestor (Thomas Davies) was born at Tynycraig (not sure if I've got the spelling right) and that this place was in Falog? Breconshire.
I know he was born circa 1819 and that his father was called David.
Can someone please tell me do they know of this place and is it in Breconshire? and also
is it possible if this is a place to find on the 1841 census to see if any of the family are still there.
If it is correct, which public office would hold records and/or is there anything on the net I could search for more info apart from LDS.?
Thanks

Hi Caio,
Tyngraig is a more likely Welsh form; the 'y' can disappear in speech from the original 'Tynygraig'. You can find both forms in Welsh place-names. A search for Tynygraig Breconshire gives a place near Builth/Llanelwedd, but I can make nothing of 'Falog'. Sorry to be no more use.
